RICHMOND, VA – February 20, 2012 – The KLM Scholarship Foundation has been selected to receive the Urban League of Greater Richmond's 2012 Community Service Award. This award is presented by the Urban League of Greater Richmond to a Richmond based organization in recognition of outstanding service to, support of, and involvement in the community. The award will be presented at the 98th Anniversary Celebration and Scholarship Fundraiser.

The celebration takes place at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, Friday, March 23, 2012, 6 p.m., generating support for Urban League programs such as Housing, Employment, Economic Inclusion and more.

The KLM Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in Richmond, Virginia November 2002. The primary purpose of the organization is to raise funds and distribute book scholarship awards to students that attend college in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The scholarships are academic-based and target full-time students faced with financial obstacles.
The Urban League of Greater Richmond had its beginnings in 1913. It is governed by an interracial Board of Directors.

The services provided by the Urban League of Greater Richmond are significant to the activities of the City of Richmond and surrounding counties. The Urban League of Greater Richmond has a staff of ten with four (4) part-time employees. The service area of the Urban League of Greater Richmond covers the City of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Chester and Petersburg – population, 1,000,000.
